Harley-Davidson is the oldest motorcycle manufacturer in the United States and is famous worldwide for large cruiser motorcycles and American cruiser culture. Founded in 1903 by William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson in a small wooden shed in Milwaukee, it has endured for more than 120 years and remains a symbol of American motorcycle culture and an important emblem of the global riding community.

Brand History and Milestones

In 1909, Harley-Davidson introduced its first V-twin engine, and in 1911 it introduced a variable valve timing system designed by Johnny Pag. By the 1920s, it had become the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer. In 1936, it introduced the Knucklehead 48 engine; in 1957, the Panhead engine and Sportster series; in 1969, the XLCH Ironhead Sportster; and in 1984, the Evolution engine and Softail series. After filing for bankruptcy protection during the 2009 financial crisis, the company reorganized, and in 2011 it introduced the Project LiveWire electric concept motorcycle.

Harley-Davidson is known for air-cooled V-twin engines. Its Special Construction (SC) and Dynamical structures provide strong low-rpm torque.
